AFRICA !!
It was our first experience of Africa, a place which we called home for a few months. Of course, it was work which brought us here, but it was once in a lifetime experience. With the Indian traces at its core, Jo’Burg has evolved a city over the past few decades. Going back to the days of the Apartheid, we visited the city of Soweto, also the birthplace of Nelson Mandela. A must try is driving around Soweto to visualize how the locals of the city have evolved from the days of poverty. A lot of things come REAL! We also tried jumping from the remains of Power towers, a much visited place if you have the adrenaline for a bungee from 110mts.
The old part of the city is more sort of a residential area now, becoming the hub for a lot of local groups. The new settlements are around the city, major ones being Sandton, Bryanston, etc. Montecasino was an amazing place as well with the whole city consolidated into an area, the best of food & entertainment with amazing theater shows. ‘Singing in the Rain’ is a must watch if you end up there. Also the experience at Lion park was new for us, playing with the Tiger cubs & Cheetah for the first time in our lives, as close as we could get to the Wildlife in the city.
I wouldn’t complain about the traffic, its same as in India as well.
